This work was fun to try. My big regret was not being able to start sooner. If I had snapped some photos over the last few months I feel I would have had even more material as they were practicing 2/3 times a week. However - regardless of that, I loved capturing the girls. I had over 1000 images, and narrowed it down to about 100 that I still liked. These are probably the ones that tell the story best, but really, nothing could truly capture what this meant to the girls. For the viewer, I hope they see that a group of determined young girls said yes to a new sport, and worked their butts off. They had so much fun, and were so supported by their amazing coaches & parents, that all eight of them signed up again for the Spring. I think I will continue to photograph them at that time and add a second "narrative" to the site.
The biggest struggle I found during this project, aside from time, was the actual time change! With it being dark by 5pm, we had limited daylight. Shooting moving objects in the dark is not something I was entirely comfortable with yet, so I really had to push. I was glad we had Greg's class a few weeks ago where he urged us to shoot lots. That helped me - because I felt like ok, SOMETHING will have to turn out! On the days we had earlier games/practices I was able to get a lot more good content.
